Dear Friends in Christ,
Without volunteers like you we could never reach the goals our Lord has established for His church. Yet the question remains, how do we fill all the needs for ministry we have before us? How do we get all the right pegs in the right holes?
The Lay Leadership team has literally spent hours upon hours with this very issue. The previous process was to create all the 'ministry slots' we pre-determine we need and then start the ardusous task of recruting souls to fill all the slots. Success was determined by having all the slots filled.
Now we have made a subtle yet profound move in the way we will staff our ministry needs (and even determine what ministries we will be involved in).
The first assumption we make is the God assumptions: "Once God calls us to a particular ministry God will gift and raise up persons to fill that ministry need." Therefore we will cease to recruit and seek those called and gifted for the ministry God is calling GFUMC to be invested.
The second assumption is task-driven assumption: "Ministry is not about creating slots but rather discerning the plae God is calling us to go." This means that we may not be invested in ministry just because it was a good idea last year. The task we are about, the task unto which we discern as God's wooing is the place we want to be. Our ministry will cease to be program driven (slots) and will be driven by passion related tasks.
The final assumption is the radical reality assumption: "Should God not raise up leaders for, or resource a ministry, we assume that that ministry is one we should not invest in at this time." What this means is that ministry opportunities may shrink at first and that some favorite projects may go away. This does not mean that that eministry or program is unimportant but only that God is not calling use there at this time. The evidence of this is that God has not raised up persons to fill this need.
What follows is not a 'ministry interest survey.' This is not about a 'wish list for ministry.' What you are being asked to do is prayerfully consider where it is that the Holy Spirit is calling you, and has equipped you, to serve. SHAPE has done a great job helping us to discover our gifts for ministry. Most of us can verbalize what our gifts for ministry are. However the area we are missing is how to translate our gifts into passionate service. The goal of the Leadership Team is to match passion and gifts at the point of God's call.
Where is God calling you to serve?
To be in ministry with you is both a blessing and joy!
"Igniting Members for Ministry" is designed to be a valuable tool for helping you find places to WIN, DISCIPLE, and SERVE. The tasks that the church needs done in ministry are simply stated in this on-line COMMITMENT FORM. All you have to do is find your niche.
*Reflect on how God S.H.A.P.E.D. you for service. It may be something that you can do with others or by yourself. It may be a one-time activity or a year-long commitment. But it should reflect what you enjoy doing and want to do for the church's ministry, something that is your personal passion.
*Review the areas in which you will commit to. Within the interest areas are:
Click on your choices and they will be added to the "My Commitments" box in the upper right corner of your screen.
Once you have made your selections, click 'print' in the "My Commitments" box - an information screen will appear, provide the requested information and print your commitment sheet to present at church on Sunday November 22.
You can also copy/paste your commitment sheet and email to your submission to ann.lee@gfumc.net
After prayerful consideration, the areas checked on this form are the areas I agree to give my service to in 2010. I commit to do this service to the Glory of God and for the work of His church and His kingdom.
